Morden's unique culture and heritage will be highlighted in the coming months as residents and visitors take walks through the community.

Parkland Pathways consists of an illustrated booklet of self-guided walks that is being produced to celebrate Morden's "Chautauqua Spirit" year.

Members of Morden's Historical and Horticultural Society have researched and written the booklet that describe Morden's architectural, landscaping, and botanical heritage and also note significant historical sites.

There will be four walks to choose from.

One walk is called "A rose by any other name" and is a walk through the Morden Research Station.

Historical Society member Lenore Laverty said focus points on this walk will be the log cabin, the stone bridge, the rose test site and history about Henry Marshall's rose research.

A sculpture of Henry Marshall will be unveiled at the Civic Centre rose garden in July, 2008.

The final path on this walk will take you across the street to the Boundary Trails Place/Agassiz Medical Centre complex.  On the east wall, facing Route 100 you will see a new mural to be installed in July, during Morden’s Chautauqua Spirit events.  It celebrates the spectacular roses developed by Henry Marshall at the Morden Research Station.

Residents and visitors will be able to pick up a Parkland Pathways self guided walk brochure from the Pembina Hills Arts Centre or the Civic Centre in mid May.
