Gardening is the art that uses flowers and plants as paint, and the soil and sky as canvas. ~ Elizabeth Murray
Gardening is about enjoying the smell of things growing in the soil, getting dirty without feeling guilty, and generally taking the time to soak up a little peace and serenity. ~ Lindley Karstens
In a garden anyone may be an artist, may experiment with all the subtleties or simplicities of line, mass, color, and composition, and taste the god-like joys of the creator. ~ H. G. Dwight, 1912
About the organization
The Morden & District Horticultural Society received it's charter April 3, 1916 making it the fourth such organization in Manitoba. Under it's leadership prize-winning gardeners were developed, parks were planted and the town of Morden was beautified. Today, we offer workshops, lectures, and discussions to share our enthusiasim for gardening.
The town of Morden, along side the Agriculture Canada Research Station, has a significant presence in gardens across Canada and the northern USA. The hardy Parkland series of roses developed by plant researchers such as Dr. Henry Marshall are enjoyed for their beauty, profusion, and hardiness. Morden Centennial, Morden Sunrise, Morden Blush, Morden Fireglow ... just to name a few ... delight northern gardeners everywhere and bring a piece of our town to far-flung places. We proudly celebrate this rich heritage in our own gardens.
Together the members of the Hort Society continue to encourage people to get their hands dirty and discover the joy of gardening!
