Chautauqua Spirit Official Greetings
A MESSAGE FROM THE PREMIER
On behalf of the people and Province of Manitoba, I am pleased to extend congratulations to the Town of Morden upon receiving designation as a Cultural Capital of Canada for 2008.
Manitoba has garnered a reputation around the world as a centre of excellence for the arts and cultural entertainment. Over the years, Morden has contributed substantially to our province’s vibrant arts scene, and it is exciting to share in the recognition you so richly deserve. Looking around the community today, arts and culture flourish in the daily lives of the residents of Morden. With an arts centre, museums, community festivals, public displays of artwork, countless performances, and an overall appreciation of natural heritage, it is not difficult to see why this town has received this prestigious award.
The people of Morden should be tremendously proud of their rich heritage and cultural diversity. Coming together to share and explore the culture, traditions and history of others has helped strengthen your social fabric and unite your community. I commend all the volunteers for their selfless efforts in supporting the town of Morden and in making our province an even more wonderful place to live.
Best wishes to everyone involved in Morden’s celebration of the “Chautauqua Spirit”. All the best with what is sure to be a year full of cultural discoveries for everyone!
Honourable Gary Doer
Premier of Manitoba
