It’s not the Antique Road Show, but it’s the next best thing and it’s coming to Morden.
The first ever Rock and Fossil Festival will take place at the Canadian Fossil Discovery Centre February 22 and 23 from 10 a.m to 5 p.m.
CFDC curator and paleontologist Anita Janzic says they are excited about the event and hope to see many families, school groups and rock and fossil enthusiasts take part.
“It’s a way to celebrate rocks and fossils and get people interested in and familiar with what we have here locally,” says Janzic.
“Downtown Morden,” she says, “is an ideal spot to find many types of rock including sandstone, ingenious rock and limestone. Many minerals and gypsum can also be found in the area as well.
“If you look closely you can see shelled organisms in some of the limestone on the old stone buildings in,” she notes.
People are also invited to bring in their own rock and fossil collections as qualified archeology and paleontology professionals will be on hand to identify them.
There will be demonstrations on molding and casting fossils, numerous exhibits displaying various collections and many other activities.
A $3 admission fee will be charged for the day.
The Festival was created for Chautauqua Spirit and is funded in part by the Cultural Capitals Grant.
