Morden’s cultural diversity will be shared with youth in the community this summer through a unique week-long program.

The Pembina Hills Arts Council will host a summer youth camp as part of Morden’s Chautauqua Spirit celebrations.

Diversity Days will explore the food, history, folklore, clothing and dances of each heritage group.

This two-week program aims help the young people to appreciate the folk-life that has contributed to so much of Morden’s Mosaic, especially the Celtic, German and Dutch heritage and the French/Metis Heritage.

Coordinator Sharron Wiens said there will be different clinicians leading the various activities each week.

The fist camp featuring German/Dutch and Celtic cultures is set for Monday July 28 and runs until August 1. Leading the arts component will be Kristin Ching, while Viktoria Schaefer will head up the music, language and literature component.

Week two of Diversity Days will run August 5 to 8 and will feature the French and Metis cultures. Tom & Lori Neufeld will lead the music, language and literature component and Robert Hogue will teach the art component.

Children ages 6 to 11 are invited to take part in Diversity Days. The camps are free, however space is limited so pre-registration is required by contacting the Pembina Hills Arts Centre at 822-6026.
