The Pembina Hills Arts Centre is home to a unique art exhibit this month.

10x10x10 is an exchange exhibit from the municipality of Baie-St-Paul, in the district of Charlevoix, Quebec. Baie-St-Paul is the place that has been the most painted in Canada, by the greatest artists of all times.

In 2007, Baie-St-Paul was the Cultural Capital of Canada and one of their projects was to gather paintings from 10 artists, 10 provinces in 10 days. The artists were asked to create a work of art that would be representative of their province.

These works of art are now a part of a travelling exposition to the ten provinces involved and it is only fitting that Morden, a 2008 Cultural Capital of Canada, would host the exhibit from June 3 to 28.

Pembina Hills Arts Centre executive director Alexis Kinloch said they are excited to have this exhibit in their gallery, as it is only travelling to a few places across Canada.

She said the exhibition is quite amazing and features many different styles of art.

They range from simple to complicated, beautiful and realistic, muddy and impressionistic, said Kinloch, adding some also borderline abstract art.

“Being named a Cultural Capital for 2008 is really giving us the chance to raise awareness of culture in Morden,” said Kinloch, “and we have so much of it in the area from drama to the visual arts and music.”

Kinloch encourages the public to come in and see the exhibition.

An official opening reception will take place on June 13 from 7 to 9 p.m. and the public is welcome to attend.

The Gallery hours are Tue-Thur 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Fri 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.
