Amateur photographers, get your cameras ready.

A photographic competition titled “Coming up Roses” is encouraging photographers to create images of the Parkland Roses.

The competition is another event planned to celebrate Morden’s Cultural Capitals of Canada “Chautauqua Spirit” project.

Why the Parkland Roses?

The theme was chosen to celebrate the botanical legacy of Dr. Henry Marshall – a former Morden resident instrumental in the development of the Parkland Roses.

It is also meant to capture a present day representation of Morden’s Cultural heritage. Winning entries will be acquired for permanent display in the local Art Gallery or elsewhere in the community and the twelve best submissions may also be used in a 2009 calendar.

There are 13 varieties in the Parkland Rose series to chose from. For entry forms and a complete list of criteria you can contact Darlene Bergmann at 822-5389, email her at darlbergmann@hotmail.com or go to www.chautauquaspirit.com.

Entry forms and submissions must be in by August 16th.

The winners will be announced at the Chautauqua Spirit festival in September.
