Along the Creek and Through the Woods
You don’t have to go far to enjoy a scenic nature walk. Along the Creek and Through the Woods, is another one of the Parkland Pathways Heritage Walks created to highlight the community’s architectural, landscaping, and botanical heritage as well as note historical sites.
The walk begins at the entrance to the Morden Park and continues north on the pathway. The ten-acre civic park was developed in the late 1800’sand is one of Morden’s most impressive assets.
The walk will highlight the Dead Horse Creek, the footbridge, which will be named the Ruth Winkler Bridge in June, and to the Livingston Nature Park.
As Morden developed and expanded, the narrow corridor of the Deadhorse Creek was lost within the community and was surrounded by the backs of buildings and parking lots. This park began as a demonstration project that might eventually lead to revitalization of the Creek through the Town.
The development of Livingstone Nature Park began in 1999 under the guidance of the Morden Millennium Committee. This forest of native tree and shrub species provides a habitat for deer, beaver and other small animals and a variety of birds.
The booklet consisting of four self-guided walks is being produced especially for Morden’s “Chautauqua Spirit” year and will be available in mid-May.
