Marketing Arts & Culture
This workshop took place on March 1st, 2008 at the Morden Friendship Centre and was presented by Linda Fehr and Linda Sprung. It was an in-depth training session for representatives from many of Morden's arts and culture groups. Topics included creating a marketing plan; building membership; assessing customer interest; creating marketing materials; word-of-mouth marketing; managing marketing databases and measuring the impact of marketing. This workshop was geared to helping arts and cultural groups in Morden to become more robust and self-sufficient.
Attracting & Keeping Volunteers
This workshop took place on March 8th, 2008 at the Morden Friendship Centre and was presented by Lois Dudgeon and Lavonne Kroeker. It focused on the recruitment and retention of volunteers for arts and culture organizations. Many organizations have too few volunteers and worry about overloading or burning out the current committed individuals. The workshop highlighted the strategies and practices of successful volunteer programs.
A.B.C. - Best Practices For Arts & Culture Groups
This workshop "About the Business of Culture" took place on April 19th, 2008 at the Morden Friendship Centre and was presented by Dr. Robert Kent of Mansis Development Corp. It highlighted practices that insure the survival and success of arts and cultural groups. It also described how to overcome common organization problems. (E.g. volunteer’s lack of time; leadership burnout; difficult people and destructive behaviours;). Other subjects were strategic planning, financial accountability, and effective management. The main focus of the workshop was "Principles of Managing People" and each participant was given a copy of Dr. Kent's book with that name.
