Bringing Heritage to Life (4)
1. “High-Tech History: Digitizing Your Photographs and Records”
This workshop took place on November 15th, 2008 at the Morden Friendship Centre. It introduced the process and protocols for scanning, storing, and web displaying of print records and photographs and was presented by Bryan & Michelle Warkentin.
2. “Get a Life!: Interviewing and Recording Oral Histories:
“An interview is just a conversation that the audience is eavesdropping in on.” This workshop took place on October 18th, 2008 at the Morden Friendship Centre. It taught young people and adults how to record Oral History and to conduct memorable interviews. The facilitator was Les Kletke - broadcaster and author.
3. “It’s Okay to Talk to Yourself”: Oral Memoirs Workshop
This workshop took place on November 8th, 2008 at the Morden Friendship Centre. It taught the participants how to create Oral Memoirs. It demonstrated the effective use of recording equipment and provided guidelines to spark participants’ memories. The workshop was presented by Abby Spielmacher who has experience in recording oral histories within the native communities.
4. “Write Down Memory Lane: Multi-session Course on Memoir Writing
This multiple- session course in memoir writing helped Morden’s senior citizens to progress from memory to memoir. The classes were a blend of direct instruction and participant workshopping.
There were four sessions taking place on January 12th & 26th and February 9th & 23rd, 2008 at the Morden Friendship Centre.
Everyone has valued opinions, rich wisdom and wonderful stories to tell….
This was an opportunity to celebrate each persons life in four sessions of fun and learning. They drew on their own memories/expertise, and walked away having recorded a bit of history…..Their own history! What a wonderful gift for their family/friends!
