"Guiding" Spirits Exhibit
This special twelve panel exhibit was researched and written by Diana Wiebe for the Chautauqua Spirit Project.
It honours individuals who helped to make the Town of Morden a unique community. It depicts those “Guiding Spirits” – Morden people who have distinguished themselves either in local service or in a larger sphere. It highlights their achievements, ethnic heritage, and contribution to the community.
There are twelve panels covering the following subjects that were designed and manufactured by IS Image Promotions in Morden. Click on the panels below to see a larger view so that you can read the comments next to each of the Guiding Spirits.

Chautauqua Heritage Quilt
Barnswallow Quilters accepted the challenge of creating a heritage quilt as part of their involvement in the Chautauqua Spirit program. In the spirit of an old-fashioned quilting bee, many Barnswallow members and other interested individuals participated in piecing and hand stitching the quilt. Designed by area resident Katie Friesen, the quilt is comprised of 32 blocks depicting aspects of Morden's culture and heritage. Barnswallow members come from Morden, Winkler, Darlingford, Crystal City, Plum Coulee and the surrounding areas. The Chautauqua Heritage Quilt was Unveiled at the Chautauqua Celebration Festival on September 26th - 28th, 2008. The quilt is now on display in the waiting room of the Agassiz Medical Centre along with a document that describes each block and a list of all those who took part in making the quilt. Natalie Rostad Exhibit – "Jouney in Spirit: Full Circle"
This exhibition took place from September 8th to October 6th, 2008 at the Pembina Hills Arts Centre as part of their 20th Anniversary celebrations. This exhibition featured the rock art of Metis artist Natalie Rostad Desjarlais. Natalie was an original member of the Pembina Hills artist group and has pioneered a form of painting that harkens back to the ancient pictographs of her ancestors. In partnership with the Manitoba Arts Network, this exhibit will travel to galleries in other Manitoba Towns. Click here to see the catalogue of her peices that were on display.
The play "When the Stone Speaks" was written using the ideas from this art form.
Pembina Hills Arts Council 20th Anniversary Members Exhibit
This exhibition took place from August 4th to September 5th, 2008 and featured the works of member artists of the Pembina Hills Arts Council as they celebrated their 20th Anniversary.
Exchange Exhibit – "10 X 10 X 10" – Baie-Saint-Paul
This exhibit took place June 3rd to 27th, 2008 at the Pembina Hills Arts Centre. The municipality of Baie-St-Paul, in the district of Charlevoix, province of Quebec (100 km east of Quebec), was chosen Cultural Capital of Canada for the year 2007. One of their projects was to gather paintings from 10 artists, 10 provinces, and 10 days, in the period between the 21st and the 30th of September inclusively.
The artists chosen were asked to create a work of art that would be representative of their province. These works of art were part of a travelling exposition to the ten provinces concerned. The following are the artists and their art.
